Open Health News looks at why Metriport publishes all of its code as open source, under the GNU AGPL v3 on GitHub. The service takes in patient data, converts it to FHIR and JSON, and cleans it by removing duplicates and adding plain-text descriptions to diagnosis codes.
CEO Dima Goncharov and COO Colin Elsinga argue that open code lets outside security experts review it and can become a shared standard across health tools, while the business rests on data-cleaning expertise and infrastructure customers would not build themselves.
