Introducing: Pharmaceutical Intelligence

Today we’re introducing a new data source, and product capabilities from Metriport: Pharmaceutical Intelligence 💊

Beyond just getting general patient medication data from EHRs, care teams need additional information for true medication adherence and real-time intelligence to monitor their patients—like proactively knowing when refills happen, when a patient picks up their medications from pharmacies, and when new prescriptions are created from new providers.

TL;DR:

Metriport customers can now enable direct enhanced pharmaceuticals data to proactively monitor their patients’ prescriptions, refills, and more.

This all works directly within Metriport’s existing ecosystem, available via API, Dashboard, or EHR apps.

How Does It Work?

Metriport gets comprehensive pharmaceutical data from a mix of PBMs and pharmacies (including cash pay), national and regional Health Information Exchanges, as well as directly via Surescripts, to ensure the most comprehensive, up-to-date data is available for providers at the point-of-care.

Use Cases

Medication Adherence & Monitoring:

  • Automatically flag patients who haven't refilled critical medications (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and more) within expected timeframes
  • Identify patients with declining refill frequency over time, indicating potential adherence issues before they become critical
  • Proactively reach out to patients approaching medication gaps with automated reminders or care team interventions

Care Coordination & Safety:

  • Detect when patients receive new prescriptions from specialists, urgent care, or other providers outside your network—preventing dangerous drug interactions
  • Real-time monitoring of patients on multiple medications to identify potential interactions, duplications, or inappropriate combinations
  • Track whether patients fill prescriptions after hospital discharge, a critical indicator of care plan adherence
